About “Spirit of the Midwest”

SpiritofMidwest_GuideDogsPuppy“Spirit of the Midwest” is the annual event page of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory. The IAM Midwest Territory hosts several events each year to benefit Guide Dogs of America (GDA). These events include the “Rides for Guides” Classic Car Show, the “Rides for Guides” Motorcycle Poker Run, The Buffenbarger-Walworth Flatlanders Pheasant Hunt & Trap Shoot and several other events throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, N. Dakota, S. Dakota and Wisconsin.

Guide Dogs of America provides guide dogs and instruction in their use, free of charge, to blind and visually-impaired men and women. The organization was started by a blind Machinist in 1948. Since that time, GDA has provided guide dogs to more than 2,000 blind and visually-impaired men and women from the U.S. and Canada. GDA does not receive any federal or state funding support.
